STATEMENT:

The Artists' Book is a portable gallery; an intimate exhibition of personal expression shared or secreted; collaborative; caters slightly to the instinct of destroying to create; an alteration of what has come before resulting in something unique such as graffiti declares "I am here", "I exist", "Look what we can do together". These gestures forward the prospect of the democratization of the art process, a key element of our group aesthetic.

DISLOCATIONS is the name that umbrellas all GAP Artists' Books created individually or collectively. The original design and contextual purpose of many of these books has been diverted and these alterations (dislocations) breathe new life into the materials.
GLOBAL ART PROJECT as an international collaborative collective of 70+ members working in 17 countries creates Artists' Books as a means of group communication, directed interaction and as a prompt for personal practice used in exercises with the books or fragments (frags) delivered through the postal system, in residencies around the world, workshops or when local GAP members gather informally and pass around a discarded book, a crumbling artifact to salvage giving new visual life to a sketchbook, phone book, road map or blank sheets of paper which may be bound together more formally.

These mixed media artifacts have been exhibited in numerous galleries and travel with us during residencies in Italy, USA, Mexico and Africa with scheduled exhibitions in Lier, Belgium in 2023 and 2024.

DECLARACIÓN:

El Libro de Artistas es una galería portátil; una exhibición íntima de expresión personal compartida o secretada; colaborativo; atiende ligeramente al instinto de destruir para crear; una alteración de lo que ha venido antes resultando en algo único como el graffiti declara "Estoy aquí", "Existo", "Mira lo que podemos hacer juntos". Estos gestos adelantan la perspectiva de la democratización del proceso artístico, un elemento clave de nuestra estética grupal.

DISLOCATIONS es el nombre que engloba a todos los Libros de Artista GAP creados de forma individual o colectiva. El diseño original y el propósito contextual de muchos de estos libros se han desviado y estas alteraciones (dislocaciones) dan nueva vida a los materiales.
GLOBAL ART PROJECT como colectivo colaborativo internacional de más de 70 miembros que trabajan en 17 países crea Libros de Artistas como un medio de comunicación grupal, interacción dirigida y como un estímulo para la práctica personal utilizada en ejercicios con los libros o fragmentos (frags) entregados a través del sistema postal, en residencias de todo el mundo, talleres o cuando los miembros locales de GAP se reúnen informalmente y pasan un libro desechado, un artefacto que se está desmoronando para salvar dando nueva vida visual a un cuaderno de bocetos, guía telefónica, mapa de carreteras u hojas de papel en blanco que pueden ser unidos más formalmente.

Estos artefactos de medios mixtos se han exhibido en numerosas galerías y viajan con nosotros durante residencias en Italia, EE. UU., México y África con exhibiciones programadas en Lier, Bélgica en 2023 y 2024.
